J.J. Gesher’s Debut Release
Over the last couple of weeks, Joyce Gittlin and Janet Fattal have faced large and enthusiastic crowds to celebrate the publication of their debut novel, A Narrow Bridge. Released under their collaborative pen name J.J. Gesher, this stunning, engrossing novel explores loss, connection, family, religious traditions, and resilience.
Joyce, a television writer and director, and Janet, a college literature teacher, began collaborating on screenplays several years ago, and their work has earned the Geller Prize and the Austin Film Festival’s Screenwriting Award. Joyce has also also written screenplays for 20th Century Fox, Disney, and Paramount; her TV credits include Wings, Everybody Loves Raymond, and Frasier. Along with teaching literature and writing, Janet leads book clubs for the Skirball Cultural Center, Hadassah, and Brandeis University.
Lauded as a captivating examination of the inevitable sorrow and unexpected healing that follows a profound loss, A Narrow Bridge debuted to a packed house at Chevalier’s Books, which included a stunning performance of three gospel-tinged songs by a trio (video coming soon). Next came a brunch for 80 book lovers in Palo Alto, featuring both authors in conversation with moderator Adean Golub.
