In case you didn’t hear, our very own Naomi Hirahara joined the Vroman’s Walk of Fame earlier this month! Dozens of fans, book-lovers, and community members gathered outside Vroman’s Bookstore in Pasadena to celebrate and honor Naomi’s talent, heart, and contributions to culture. In the words of Allison Hill, Vroman’s president and CEO: “She consistently delivers beautifully complex novels that are page-turning narratives, but also rich explorations of history, culture, and humanity.”

Naomi Hirahara is the Edgar Award-winning author of the Mas Arai mystery series. Her latest book with PPB, Hiroshima Boy, is the final installment in the Mas Arai series. The series follows L.A. gardener Mas Arai as he solves mysteries and navigates the culture of Japanese-Americans in Southern California. Naomi has also written many books about gardening and Japanese-American history and culture, and has contributed to several anthologies and collaborative books including Los Angeles Noir, Santa Cruz Noir, and Prospect Park’s most recent edition of Hometown Pasadena.

Next time you’re in Pasadena, stop by Vroman’s and check out Naomi’s handprints for yourself! We are so thankful to everyone who came out to celebrate with us! Congratulations, Naomi!

If you weren’t able to make it out to Vromans on Saturday, don’t worry! Check out this video of the ceremony, straight from Naomi’s Twitter.
