Author Sonya Sargent is a self-taught chef. Her recipes have appeared on VegetarianTimes.com, TasteofHome.com, BetterRecipes.com, and AllRecipes.com, among others. Her Savory Mushroom Tart recipe appeared on the Amy’s Organic Kitchen website, and her Passover Pizza recipe can be found under Festival Recipes on the Jewish Vegetarian Society U.K. website. She took third place honors in the 2010 Vegetarian Times magazine Reader Holiday Recipes Contest for her Danish Almond Streusel Cake recipe, which was described as “simple and delicious.” Also featured in Vegetarian Times magazine was her Asian Autumn Salad recipe. It was chosen number two in that issue’s “Fab 5” Recipes. Sonya is also an accomplished musician, singer, composer, performer, recording artist, and guitarist. Her CD recordings of her original music releases, titled, “Seven,” “Blue Eyes,” “Sonya,” “Sonoma,” “Christmas Doll,” “Sonya Live!,” and her latest, “Follow Your Dreams,” can be purchased through cdbaby.com. She has resided with her husband, Ken Sargent, in L.A.’s Laurel Canyon neighborhood for more than twenty-five years. She was inspired to write The Laurel Canyon Vegetarian Cookbook after seeing the 2009 film Julie and Julia, starring Meryl Streep and Amy Adams. At present, she is studying French cooking.
